Thriving Systems – Art Series – Studio Nima x Rafael Nobre
Studio Nima and Brazilian designer and illustrator Rafael Nobre collaborated to create artworks that symbolize the beauty and importance of biodiversity. Together, we want to translate this message into the powerful and universal language of art and inspire and engage people in the collective effort to protect our planet’s biodiversity.
Every species on our planet has mastered the art of survival. Biodiversity encapsulates nature’s best technology for adaptation, resilience and balance. Species and their individuals are interlinked and connected in such complex systems that even after thousands of years of exploring, there is still much to discover. However, the ecosystems are under pressure with an unprecedented rate of biodiversity loss that is endangering the benefits nature holds. There is much at stake and a collective effort is needed to induce a systemic change and protect the interconnected web of life that sustains us all. So how can we all get inspired by nature and work towards systems that are not only in balance, but really set an emphasis on how to create thriving systems instead?
As Rafael states: “Biodiversity plays a crucial role both globally and in Brazil, being fundamental for the stability of ecosystems, climate regulation, and the provision of essential natural resources for human survival. In Brazil, the Amazon and the Pantanal are emblematic examples of how biodiversity sustains life and local cultures, as well as contributing to climate change mitigation. Promoting sustainability and ecosystem conservation requires a shift in economic paradigm, where the valuation of nature and social justice surpass the relentless pursuit of profit.
The artworks presented are a visual celebration of biodiversity, highlighting the beauty and importance of plants. Inspired by real species threatened with extinction, these illustrations serve as a powerful reminder of the natural wealth we risk losing. The variety of shapes and colors reflects the diversity of plants that play essential roles in their ecosystems. Through this art, we are invited to ensure that biodiversity continues to thrive and sustain life on the planet.”
The collaborative process resulted in two artworks that are available as a limited fine-art print with only 30 copies each, hand-numbered and stamped. You can get your Thriving Systems artworks from the links below.
